DC shelled out Rs 2 crore on the all-rounder to overcome stiff competition from MI. She became the first player that they brought at the auction. She also became the second-most expensive Australian player to be sold at a WPL auction.
Sutherland is coming off a sensational Women’s Big Bash League campaign. In the recently concluded tournament, Sutherland, playing for the Melbourne Stars picked 23 wickets and scored 288 runs. The all-rounder bowled 117 dot balls, and had an economy of just 7.13.
The all-rounder was born on October 12, 2001, and at just 22 years of age, she has already made significant strides both domestically and internationally. As an all-rounder, Sutherland brings versatility to the field with her right-hand batting and right-arm medium-fast bowling.
Sutherland’s domestic career began at a remarkably young age when she debuted for the Melbourne Renegades at just 15, becoming the youngest player to feature in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Her talent was evident from the start, and she quickly became a key player for the Melbourne Stars, her current WBBL team.
Internationally, Sutherland has represented Australia across all three formats, including at the prestigious 2020 T20 World Cup. Her international statistics are impressive, with a top score of 109* in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODI) and 137* in Women’s Tests.
Her cricketing pedigree is also notable, as she is the daughter of former Cricket Australia CEO and Victoria all-rounder James Sutherland, and the sister of Victoria men’s and Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Will Sutherland.
