Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rinku Singh’s maiden T20I fifty will serve as a confidence booster for the left-handed batter after his top performance in the second match of the series against South Africa.

In the 2nd T20I against South Africa, Rinku Singh delivered a stellar performance, scoring an unbeaten 68 runs off just 39 balls. His innings was marked by aggressive batting, including nine boundaries and two sixes, showcasing his ability to handle pressure and accelerate the scoring rate.

Despite India’s challenging start, where they were at a precarious 6/2, Rinku’s explosive batting, alongside Suryakumar Yadav’s quick half-century, propelled India to a competitive total of 180/7.

Rinku’s maiden international fifty was a highlight of the match, particularly his onslaught against South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram, where he hit back-to-back maximums in the penultimate over. However, his efforts were in vain as South Africa, led by Reeza Hendricks’ brisk 49 and Aiden Markram’s solid batting, chased down a revised target of 152 runs in a rain-affected match. The Proteas managed to win by five wickets.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar said that Rinku was India’s big positive of the night and the batter is getting better each time he goes out to play. The Indian legend feels that Rinku has all the shots in the book and feels he will get a lot of confidence from the knock.

“He was. And I think you know what we have seen is that he is getting better when he goes out to play. He hasn’t had the opportunity like he has this time around and had a number of overs to play. He made very good use of it.”

“He’s got all the shots in the book. He can hit you off the front foot. He can hit you off the back foot as you see over there, with the lofted shot. He’s got all the shots in the book on the offside and and on the leg side. Well, once he gets going, it’s hard to keep him quiet, so it will do his confidence a lot of good to get that first half century,” said Gavaskar.
