Former India batter Sanjay Bangar said that India’s inexperience in the bowling department came to the fore during the second session on Day 2 against South Africa. The hosts ended Day 2 at 256 for 5, taking an 11-run lead over India in the first Test of their two-match series at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
SA vs IND, Boxing Day Test Day 2: Highlights
Dean Elgar scored his 14th Test century to guide South Africa to an 11-run lead at the end of Day 2 in their Boxing Day Test against India. In the first innings, KL Rahul played a gritty knock to smash his eighth Test hundred, helping India post 245 runs.
Speaking to Star Sports, Bangar said India’s inexperience came to the fore in the second session when they leaked runs. India conceded 141 runs in the second session, while picking two wickets.
“In the second session when they leaked runs and had an average of five runs an over, was surprising for the quality of bowling attack that India possesses. The inexperience came to the fore as the plan was to probabaly pitch the ball slightly up but the swing wasn’t really there. And that meant a lot of deliveries were driven by Elgar and De Zorzi, and later on the same trend continued,” said Bangar.
He went on to say that the Indian team would be disappointed with how they bowled on Day 2. South Africa took the attack to India on Day 2, taking a crucial lead on a tricky surface for batting.
“Overall I feel that the Indian team would be disappointed with how they bowled because they put runs on board. 245, by any stretch of the imagination , was going to be a tough score to get close to but South Africa have in fact surpassed it,” Bangar added.
South Africa will be aiming to build on the 11-run lead on Day 3, while the visitors will hope to stop Elgar and co. from taking the game away from them.
