Ellyse Perry, on Saturday, December 30, racked up her 34th half-century in ODIs in the second ODI against Harmanpreet Kaur’s India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
After Australia opted to bat first, Perry came to bat at No.3 after the visiting team lost the wicket of Alyssa Healy. From there on, the 33-year-old put her head down and scored 50 runs off 47 balls with the help of five fours and one six.
Perry was also involved in a partnership of 77 runs with Phoebe Litchfield, who made 63 runs off 98 balls with six fours. The veteran eventually got out to Deepti Sharma, caught by debutant Shreyanka Patil at midwicket.
The New South Wales-born Perry got out with Australia’s score at 117 for the loss of two wickets in 23.4 overs.
Perry chipped in with the fifty after playing a match-winning knock in the opening game of the series on Thursday, December 28. Perry scored 75 runs off 72 balls in the first match with the help of nine fours and two sixes.
After Australia lost the early wicket of skipper Alyssa Healy to Renuka Singh, Perry not only bailed her team out, but put them in a position of command.
Perry put on 148 runs with Litchfield, who made 78 runs before being cleaned up by Sneh Rana. Although she did not bowl, Perry made an impact big enough for Australia to win the first ODI by six wickets.
In 23 ODIs against India, Perry has scored 596 runs at an average of 42.57 with six half-centuries and a top score of 90 back in 2016 in Canberra.
