India superstar batter Virat Kohli gave a pep talk in the team huddle ahead of the final session on Day 2 of their Test match against South Africa at the SuperSports Park in Centurion.
Kohli stepped in for India skipper Rohit Sharma, to give a team pep talk ahead of the third session on Day 2. Rohit had picked up an injury while fielding just before Tea on Day 2. Rohit injured his elbow and did not return for the first three overs after Tea.
DISAPPOINTING SESSION FOR INDIA
The hosts piled the pressure on India in the second session of Day 2 with Dean Elgar scoring a magnificent hundred on his final Test series. Elgar got to his hundred off 141 balls, hitting 20 boundaries as he tore into the Indian bowling attack that was wayward on Day 2.
Elgar, who is playing his penultimate match in international cricket, scored his 14th Test century and his second against India. Following the early dismissal of Aiden Markram, Elgar took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners with some masterful batting on tricky playing conditions.
He was ably supported by debutant David Bedingham, as they formed a game-changing 131-run stand for the fourth wicket. Bedingham scored a half-century on his Test debut as South Africa went past India’s first innings total of 245 runs.
All of India’s bowlers proved ineffective in the second session as South Africa went from 49 for 1 after Lunch to 194 for 3 at Tea.
Earlier in the match, KL Rahul scored a gritty hundred, his eighth in Test cricket, to guide India to a respectable total in the first innings. In fact, he became just the third Indian batter to score multiple Test centuries on South African soil, joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (5) and Kohli (2) in the elite list.
